One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This

I have nothing to tell you,
save that it is to you that I tell this nothing.
- Roland Barthes, “A Lover’s Discourse”

Today I found myself walking on footbridges feet light still not weary out on an excuse to walk in the alley where we first found a convenience store and all the ways I used to suspend the familiar routine I now remember how on the way home I kept adding turns prolonging the walk  thinking of your imminent departure I’ll take a turn here where when you lifted your shoes what’s under your feet shivered on the corner by the grotto a cat waiting to be pet more steps to suspend and by the time we’re exhausted none of us speaks and we understood we no longer have anything to say except this silence to each other.
